GIF vs. MP4: Which Format Do You Actually Get?
Here’s something most people don’t realize: content that looks like a GIF on Pinterest is very often stored behind the scenes as a short looping video file, not a true .gif. That’s a Pinterest platform choice, not something any downloader controls.
Why does that matter? A true .gif has no sound and tends to be lower quality with a larger file size. A short MP4 loop has better quality, a smaller file size, and can include audio if the original had any. When both are available, we let you pick.
Which one should I choose? If you need the file to work as a classic looping GIF (for a forum, chat app, or older platform), pick .gif. If you just want the best-quality copy of the animation, the MP4 version is usually the better pick.
